Distributor Paramount Pictures is also getting a lot of flak for what some have seen as a double standard in how they handled the release of Kids. A few weeks ago, a commercial running during the Super Bowl was pulled from the TV, shocking many viewers, but not K-Directo. Why? Because it included a scene where a young girl is being sexually molested by three older kids. No one said a word about it. But then, after the release of Kids, various critics took issue with it.
The young girl in question is played by newcomer Alexandria Williams. Williams was 14 at the time she filmed for the film, and though she did not appear in the final cut of the movie, the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services was reportedly contacted by the film's distributor, Paramount, after release.
Williams told USA Today that she was warned before she signed on to the project, and accepted the role "...to hopefully be a part of something that's going to be cool." She said she was overwhelmed by the abuse scene, and added ""I kept saying, 'You're not supposed to have passion.'" Williams said she could not film the scene without crying. She said she was told not to get pregnant because she was not allowed to get an abortion abroad. She eventually had an abortion. But she really wanted to keep it, be a Hollywood star, she said.
Williams' mother, Felicia Smith, told The Washington Post that her daughter was the victim of harassment while making the movie. Williams' 24-year-old boyfriend allegedly threatened to "do things" to her if she did not obey his orders. d2c66b5586
