Why do you think using the DNG converter is so complicated All you need to do is use the DNG converter as your software to download the images from your card. Choose the folder on the card, choose a folder on your computer as the destination, convert. When the images have been transferred to the hard drive there in the DNG format. But if you prefer not doing that then you will need to purchase Lightroom 6.
In a previous article, I mentioned Adobe DNG as an archive strategy for preserving RAW files. Here, I'm going to spell out my step-by-step procedure for utilizing this tool. You'll need Adobe's DNG converter (it's a free download from their Web site). You will also have to make certain decisions about your existing proprietary RAW files but I'll get into that as we go along.
Once the next official update to Lightroom and Camera Raw is released that update will include support for the above listed cameras (and possibly some newer ones) and those new camera owners will no longer need to use the DNG converter as a first step into Lightroom. But until that day comes, you have a free and easy way to get your raw photos back into your regular Lightroom workflow.
Hi, diverhank, thank you for your help. I did download the converter and am in the process of converting the raw files to dng. But the files are almost two times the size of the RAW files. Is it because I embedded the original RAW data with them Is that necessary to do or should I start again and not embed the RAW info
Will I be able to use camera raw to import the .cr3 files or will I need to upgrade to the cloud version of the software It'd be great if there were a free download to allow me to process the new raw format.
So according to the table, the Canon EOS RP would require version 11.2.1 of the camera raw plug-in. This appears to be free on adobe's web site. So I'm all set Will that work with my version of Photoshop
Your options as stated before are either to upgrade to the subscription version of Photoshop, OR to use the free DNG converter to pre-process your cs3 files so that Ps CS5 can then accept the files in .dng format. It's very easy and fairly quick to do this by converting the entire folder in batch mode, it's just an extra step. 153554b96e
