To add to the Canadian rush, William Hanna, co-creator of Walt Disney's The Winnie the Pooh Movie , The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh , and Winnie's Movie , was brought on as executive producer. The plan was for Hanna to direct the film. Nelvana, however, was unable to negotiate a deal with him, which angered the production team, who felt that, although he had been removed from Winnie the Pooh (which would be made and released before the feature), Hanna's input would be needed to complete Care Bears.[31][32][nb 11] Several other staff members came on board, including:
It involves a sequence where [the Care Bear character] is given a heroin injection by the villain. And they go to sleep -- but they're not really asleep. They're just lying down, snuggled in the bed and rolling around, and they slowly drift into a stupor. And so I had to find a way to show that. It took a long time to figure out how to do it. I actually made a little model of a Care Bear, and I had a giant skull put on top of that model, and I just went through and I just smashed the care bear into the skull. And it was a horrible way to do it, but I loved doing it. I really enjoyed that. I really enjoyed that sequence.... It was a tough sequence to do. And I was glad that I'd made it, though, because that was the first time I'd ever really used a model. It's not a very typical thing in animation to have a model. It was also the first time I'd ever used a large prop. So I learnt a lot, and that was fun. And it ended up being a big part of the scene. - Nelvana animator Jim McCauley, Toronto Star July 18, 1985
Care Bears: The Movie 2, the final theatrical film in the Care Bears franchise, was released by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on DVD in the United Kingdom on December 9, 2007, and in the United States on February 12, 2008.[138] The film, unlike the first, was fully animated and featured voice-overs, a new musical score, and a brand-new story.[69] As in the first film, it revolved around the Care Bear Rescue Rangers saving the day after a comet lands on Earth, this time in the city of Care-a-Lot.[69] Two songs by the Backstreet Boys (We Are Family and Power of Love) were used in the film.[69] It was written by Chris Knowles, who had co-written the first film's script with DIC Entertainment co-founder John R. Dilworth.[69] The film was theatrically released in Russia in 2009. 827ec27edc
