Please do not download CD or DVD images with your web browser the wayyou download other files! The reason is that if your downloadaborts, most browsers do not allow you to resume from the point where itfailed.
Instead, please use a tool that supports resuming - typicallydescribed as a download manager. There are many browser pluginsthat do this job, or you might want to install a separateprogram. Under Linux/Unix, you can use aria2, wxDownload Fast or (on thecommand line) wget -c URL orcurl -C - -L -O URL. Thereare many more options listed in a comparisonof download managers.

Hi Brian ,Can we install the debian through USB ?If so what should be format of Debian OS as it was .iso in the DVD?Does the installation of virtualbox differ when this mode is followed ?Thanks in advanceDino
Hi Brian, the article is good. But, i have one question. If we do netinstall how much data will it download. I want to know this because here data is costly and i have to know how much will it download so i can check if sufficient data balance is available before starting installation. You can assume a fairly smaller install for normal usage. Thanks.
I am using Windows 7 64bit home. After installing VM and selecting New and then selecting Linux it only gives me 32 bit versions of Linux types to choose from. Why would that happen? I was hoping debian 7 64bit would show up on list as choice.
I don't like to download big images, so I go for the network installation distribution of Debian 7. Follow the link to get your own: Link to the minimal install distribution of Debian 7. Select the appropriate version to your processor. The distribution is small and during the installation all required extra's are downloaded dynamically. If you plan to install more than one server then it could be better to download the complete DVD iso's.
Now we have to connect the downloaded Debian ISO to your virtual DVD player and make the server boot with it. To do this, right-click with the mouse on the virtual machine you just created and select edit settings.
1. Start configuring the network by giving your OS a name. It is how you and other systems will identify it on the network. To simplify the process, we named the network debian-10-buster.
This section describes the recommended way to downloadand make a fresh install of LinuxCNC. There are alsoAlternate Install Methods for theadventurous. If you have an existing install that you want to upgrade,go to the Updating LinuxCNC section instead.

The Preempt-rt kernels are available for Debian from the regulardebian.org archive. The preempt-rt kernel for RaspBerry Pi is availablefrom the LinuxCNC repository. The package is called linux-image-rt-*Simply install the package in the same way as any other package from theSynaptic Package manager or with apt-get at the command-line.
Install Ubuntu Precise 12.04 x86 (32-bit). Any flavor should work (regular Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, etc). 64-bit (AMD64) is currently not supported. You can download the installer here: Note the warnings that this release is out of support. But is is a way to install LinuxCNC with a well-tested RTAI kernel.

Announcing security updates didn't worked well in the past. Wetherefore decided to change the mechanism security announcements work.Every Debian contributor (DM/DD) can now send a signed mail to thedebian-backports-announce mailinglist. Please follow the templatewhen doing so. The contribution document also shows how to reserve a BSA bydoing a merge request to the website.
In most cases it is not necessary to download and use all of these images to be able to install Debian on your computer. Debian comes with a massive set of software packages, hence why it takes so many disks for a complete set. Most typical users only need a small subset of those software packages.
Initially, you will only need to download and use the first image of a set (labelled as debian-something-1 to be able to start the Debian installer and set up Debian on your computer. If there are more images available here (labelled debian-something-2, debian-something-3, etc.), they contain the extra packages that can be installed on a Debian system (as mentioned previously). They will not be bootable and are entirely optional. If you have a fast Internet connection, you're most likely better off installing any desired extra packages directly from the Debian mirrors on the Internet instead of by using these extra images. 2b1af7f3a8
