Paramore is the fourth studio album by American rock band Paramore. It was released on April 5, 2013, through Fueled by Ramen as a follow-up to Brand New Eyes (2009). Recorded between April and November 2012, the album was described by the band as being a "statement" and a reintroduction of the band to the world and to themselves. It is the first album without guitarist Josh Farro, the only album without drummer Zac Farro and the final album with bassist Jeremy Davis before his departure in 2015.[2]
On December 6, 2012, Paramore revealed the name of the album and the release date, as well as the name of the first single from the album.[14][15] The track list was announced on January 18, 2013 by Alternative Press.[16] During the 2013 Soundwave Festival, Paramore held a listening party in Sydney, New South Wales on February 26, 2013, followed by Melbourne, Victoria two days later, run by Australian Music Channel, Channel V.[17] Williams revealed a section of the lyrics for the song "Part II" which the winners were able to hear at the listening parties on a LiveJournal post. Williams told fans that "'Let The Flames Begin' has been a favorite of ours to play live, as well as being a favorite of most people who come out to our shows.... We wanted it to have a sequel. 'Part II' it is!"[18]
The vinyl version of the album was streamed beginning on April 1, 2013 for four days, with each day playing one of the four sides.[19] The album was then officially released on April 5, 2013.[20][21] The band played an acoustic version of "Hate to See Your Heart Break" on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on April 3, 2013, announcing that on the same night, the full song would be premiered on their official website.[22] On April 20, 2013, the band released an EP for Record Store Day, titled The Holiday Sessions, released exclusively on a 7" vinyl, and is composed of the three interludes from this album.[23][24] A music video for "Anklebiters" was released on June 25, 2013. The song, however, was not released as a single.[25]
On January 5, 2013, Paramore released a teaser of the lead single "Now", revealing a snippet of the song and the release date of the single, which was January 22, 2013.[33][34] Paramore streamed the song on their website on January 21, and the song was then made available for sale along with an album pre-order through iTunes the next day. In the UK, "Now" was instead released January 24, 2013. The music video for "Now" was directed by Daniel "Cloud" Campos and premiered live on MTV on February 11.[35][36]
The album's second single, "Still Into You", was released on March 14, 2013.[37][38] A lyric video for "Still Into You" was uploaded to YouTube a day earlier, after the band performed it live for the first time at the 2013 South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.[39][40] On September 18, 2013, "Still Into You" was certified platinum by the RIAA.[41] "Daydreaming" serves as the third single from the album. It was released on December 2, 2013.[42] The music video premiered on November 5 in the UK MSN.[43][44][45]
Though not released as a single, the band released a music video for "Anklebiters" on June 26, 2013.[57][58][59] Soon after, the band released a free to play video game similar to Pac-Man that is based on the "Anklebiters" video.[59]
Following the departure of Josh and Zac Farro in 2010, the band released their self-titled fourth album in 2013. It gave the band their first number one on the US Billboard 200 and was also the number one album in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.[5] It included the singles "Still Into You" and "Ain't It Fun", with the latter winning the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song for Williams and York as songwriters, making it Paramore's first Grammy Award win.[6][7] The band's lineup changed once again after this album cycle, with bassist Jeremy Davis leaving the band near the end of 2015 and former drummer Zac Farro rejoining the band in 2017. Their fifth studio album, After Laughter, was released later that year to critical acclaim.[8] Their upcoming sixth studio album, This Is Why, is set to be released in 2023.
The band released a live album named The Final Riot! on November 25, 2008.[62] The album includes a bonus DVD with a full concert recorded in Chicago, as well as a behind the scenes documentary.[63] As of April 9, 2009, The Final Riot! is certified gold in the United States.[64]
On January 10, 2011, in an interview with MTV, Hayley Williams said that despite the band losing two of its founding members, they would release new music in 2011, although they had not confirmed if it would be a full album for release or just a small number of songs.[101] The singer also admitted that Paramore's style was likely to change with the new lineup, but clarified that the band would still retain their core signature sound.[101] Paramore later confirmed they were entering a studio in Los Angeles with producer Rob Cavallo to record what would be the Singles Club.[102]
On April 18, 2012, Williams announced that the producer for their fourth album was Justin Meldal-Johnsen.[113][114] Former Lostprophets and current Angels & Airwaves and Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin was confirmed to be the session drummer for the recording of the album.[115][116] Paramore was officially released on April 5, 2013,[117] and a #1 at US albums chart Billboard 200.[118] The first single from the album, titled "Now", was released online on January 22, 2013,[119][120] and the album's second single, "Still Into You", was released on March 14, 2013, achieving commercial success.[121][122] The third single, "Daydreaming", was released on December 2, 2013.[123] The album's fourth single, "Ain't It Fun", was released on February 4, 2014,[124] eventually becoming the band's highest-charting song in the United States[125] and a winner for Best Rock Song at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.[6][7] On November 24, 2014, Paramore: Self-Titled Deluxe was released, which includes a remake of "Hate to See Your Heart Break," a song originally on Paramore, featuring Joy Williams; this is the band's first collaboration on a song.[126][127] The band embarked on an intimate tour with Copeland,[128] they said in a blog post that "It feels right to bring the Self-Titled era to a close. We've had a very personal and hugely triumphant journey with this one. What wouldn't feel right is saying goodbye to this time in the band's career and not celebrating it with our fans in some special way."[129]
On January 19, 2016, Williams announced that the band was in the process of writing their fifth album.[139] On June 8, 2016, the band posted a short video of themselves in the studio to their social media.[140] This was preceded by a number of images which all included both former drummer Zac Farro and producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen,[141] leading fans and various media outlets to speculate the return of Farro.[142] On June 17, Farro was featured yet again in a picture uploaded to social media, this time behind a drum set, confirming that he would be recording drums for the album,[143] though he later clarified that he was only recording drums for the album and that he had not rejoined the band as a full member.[144] Despite this, on February 2, 2017, the band announced that Farro would return as the official drummer of the band.[145][146]
From September 29 to November 1, 2009, the band held a tour in North America to support Brand New Eyes.[244] The tour for their self-titled fourth album, known as The Self-Titled Tour, took place in North America from October 15 to November 27, 2013.[245] From June 19 through August 17, 2014, the band also supported the album with the Monumentour.[246] 2b1af7f3a8
